Learning Framework using Bloom's Taxonomy and Engagement Theory

After reading the Bloom's Taxonomy and Engagement Theory it is apparent that, combining HOT into the areas of learning and creating a school culture that highlights and scaffolds such thinking can tremendously impact the metamorphosis of our young learners to responsible citizens. There is a definite path of learning that a student needs to follow. The student starts from the bottom of the scale which is the lower order thinking and then progresses through to the higher scales of learning. The Bloom's taxonomy is divided as Cognitive(Knowledge), Affective(attitude), Psycho motor(skills) which ties in well with the principles of Engagement Theory i.e Relate,Create and Donate component.

With this being the Digital age, the use of ICT's becomes imperative, to make the learning journey of the students more engaging. Henceforth, I have included the use of technology various stages of my learning framework. The concept of relate, create and donate takes place in different stages of the Bloom's Taxonomy, as the students interact with their teachers, fellow students and community.

Marzano and Pickering(1997),suggest that the most effective learning occurs when the students develop an in-depth understanding of a basic concept so that they can extend and  refine the knowledge they initially acquired. Extending this thought, I have taken an example of the students working on "Recycling Waste" at the school level to start with and taking that idea to a bigger scenario.

In the framework below-

Circles- Bloom's Taxonomy
Squares- Action Verbs as well as use of ICT's in learning
Diamonds- Engagement Theory
